HOMOSEXUALITY – THE SLIPPERY SLOPE
American culture is at a crossroads of sorts with the advent of attempts to make homosexual marriage legal. The slippery slope that we find ourselves on is getting more and more steep. We didn’t arrive at this point overnight; it has taken many decades to reach this level of immorality. We are a step closer to receiving God’s judgment on our country though, and that inevitable time will accelerate once the institution of marriage has been destroyed. Once the government sanctions rampant homosexuality, the only slide left into the abyss is to abandon the Nation of Israel. How did we get to this point, and where will this lead us? Only time will tell, but here are some observations based on history and human reason…
Before we get into this, I would like to explain that I am not a homophobe. I do not hate homosexuals. I am not racist, nor am I a bigot. I actually don’t really care what people do “in the privacy of their own homes”. What I don’t like is those who believe that this behavior that goes against nature needs to be flaunted in the open, and that I am supposed to accept it, or be branded one of the terms mentioned above. Being a Christian and knowing what the Bible says about homosexuality, and other sins, I know that it is just another stop on the path of sin (see The path of sin for a more complete explanation of where sin leads to). So why am I trying to tell people that homosexuality is wrong then? It is because of the following verse in the Bible:
“The Lord is not slack concerning
his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not
willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9
I know that God does not want anyone to perish, but that all should come to repentance through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is because of this, that I do not want to stand by and let anyone, including homosexuals, die in their sins and be condemned to hell for all eternity. You could say that this is “proof” that I am not a homophobe or a bigot. If I truly hated homosexuals, then I would not try to save them. I would let them continue in their self-destructive lifestyle and let them die. God would then judge them. So the fact that I want them to find the saving grace of Jesus Christ, abandon their sin, and ultimately go to heaven, proves that I mean them no harm. Homosexuals are also no different than any of us, including me. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
So when did we start down this slippery slope? At what point did this path get steeper? Is it only the USA, or are other countries on the same path?
Let’s start at the beginning (literally with Genesis 1:1): “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”. Most people know this story, God created the universe and the earth in 6 days, and put Adam and Eve in charge. Satan, a fallen angel who tried and failed to overthrow God, wanted to mess up God’s creation. He deceived Eve into disobeying God, and with Adam following suit, sin entered the world. As a result, they were thrown out of paradise, and a curse was put on the world. Death also entered the world at this point, because prior to sin, everything was eternal. So here is the first step on the slope. Sin has now entered the world, and as the Bible says, the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Although sin had entered the world, man could still choose to follow God or Satan. This is something important to realize; Jesus said “…you are either for me or against me…” (Matthew 12:30). Everyone has to choose whether to follow God or not, and each person will be held accountable for that choice. There will be no excuses why you chose to reject Christ (see the link to the path of sin above for more). It should also be noted that to “not” choose Christ is to reject Him. Semantics won’t work either.
The next big event in history would have to be the “Tower of Babel” which is found in Genesis, chapter 10&11. We find that a great hunter named Nimrod is born out of the line of Ham. Ham was one of the 8 people to survive the “Flood of Noah”; one of his three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. God cursed Ham for doing something naughty, so it may not be much of a surprise that Nimrod was a bad guy as well. He set up his kingdom on the plain of Shinar, which is known as Babylon, Iraq today. Nimrod and Babylon are the birthplace of all pagan religions, which have spread into all of the major “religions” of today. The only true way to God is through Jesus Christ. For there is no other name by when we can be saved (Acts 4:12). So although man knew that God “created the heavens and the earth,” he chose to create his own gods. Where man was created in the image of God, man created gods in his image.
Without going into too much detail, man is the prize that God seeks. God does not want any to perish, but that all should be saved. He doesn’t want to send anyone to hell. He actually created hell for the devil and his angels, not man. But God did not create man as a robot; man must choose to follow God, to love Him because He first loved us. It is mans decision, and although God will “knock on the door of man’s heart,” he must open the door. Satan hates God, and because we are created in God’s image, and remind him of God, he hates us as well. Although he knows that he will ultimately be consigned to hell for all eternity, he will try to take as many of us with him as he can, in the time he has left as the “Prince of this World.”
If we fast forward to the 1700’s, we will find that everyone basically believed that God created the world, and that the earth was about 5800 years old as the Bible said. This was still a time with many countries were ruled by Kings, and the Biblical view of this was that God sets up kingdoms, and that people should be in subjection to them. If they did things that went against the Bible, God would deal with them, because these monarchies were subjected to Gods Rule. Those that wanted to overthrow these kingdoms didn’t like that fact that the Bible said that this was how God had set things up. They wanted to change this, and therefore needed to disqualify the Bible as the absolute truth and moral authority.
It is from this desire that the “theory” of evolution came from (see the article The Facts about Evolution for more information on this silly theory). There were three distinct things that these atheists wanted to “prove” that would contradict the Bible: The age of the Earth, the Flood of Noah, and that God created all living things. James Hutton wrote a book called “The Theory of the Earth”. Although only a “theory” and not provable conclusively, he contended that the earth was not about 6000 years old, but was rather “millions of years old”. His evidence of this was from geologic formations, which were better explained, in the Biblical view of the flood. This brings us to the next thing to be disproved, the Flood of Noah.
Charles Lyell was a Scottish lawyer who really hated the Bible. He followed in James Hutton’s footsteps and created what is known today as the “geologic column”. He contended that the age of the earth could be found by looking at the various layers, and what kinds of animals were found there. The biggest problem with the geologic column is that circular reasoning is used. The geologic column is used to figure out how old animals are, and the age of the geologic column depends on what kinds of animals are found in the layers. Yet man would rather worship the creature instead of the creator (Romans chapter 1), and people believed it, instead of the Biblical version of the flood.
Next came the most famous person who followed Charles Lyell: Charles Darwin. Darwin, who actually graduated from a Bible College, went on the HMS Beagle to collect bugs for an Englishman. He took his Bible and Charles Lyell’s book “The Principles of Geology”, and said Charles Lyell “changed his life”. He gave up on the Bible and came up with the “theory of evolution”. Again, although these are only theories, they have shaped the world’s behavior and belief systems, and have ultimately led us to where we are today. The theory of evolution is the biggest assault on God to date. Instead of attributing the world to “other gods”, we have said that no god created it; it just created itself. Never mind that not one bit of evidence in favor of any of these three men’s “theories” has ever been proven, many scientists have made the jump to evolution being a fact, and castigate anyone who would argue against it (so much for tolerance).
With the Bible disproved, revolutionaries (terrorists?) were free to stir up the people and overthrow many of the monarchies, though they probably weren’t much better off afterwards. Evolution was the next thing to cause our slope to become steeper. Evolution basically says that we came from apes, which came from other creatures, and finally back “millions of years” ago, we were pond scum floating in the “primordial soup”. With survival of the fittest as the battle cry, many millions of people were killed. We teach our children that they “evolved” from animals, and really don’t have any self worth, than wonder why they behave like animals and kill people in their schools.
Although the Bible has been discredited at this point, it is still the basis for truth and morality. Most of the laws in our western culture can be traced to the Bible. The 10 Commandments were displayed in schoolrooms and courts across the country. The next step in our slide was to stop the Bible from being the basis for Absolute Truth and Morality. Man did not want to be governed by God’s laws, even if the government backed up those laws in it’s constitution, etc. Man wanted to do that which was right in his own eyes. He wanted to make his own rules, and being a spiritual being, to create his own god(s) as well. It is an interesting study to chart the philosophy of gods through history. The most interesting thing is that the God portrayed in the Bible is unique. While all of the man made gods are finite, the God of the Bible is infinite. Man has to create a finite god, so that he isn’t greater than man, and can’t hold him accountable. Since God is infinite and powerful enough to have created the heavens and the earth, he is powerful enough to judge mankind’s actions. In man’s mind, He therefore must go.
There has been a concerted effort to get God out of every aspect of life, especially governmental, since prayer was taken out of school in 1963. The need to remove all truth and moral absolutes is the goal. At this point, man becomes god, and thinks he is in control of his destiny. Here are some statistics since man decided that God had to go:
Prayer: Taken out of schools in 1963. Interesting trends started directly after this, which was no coincidence:
It is very interesting that when man disobeys God’s laws and tries to do things on his own, it only leads to pain, suffering, and death. We have just about caught up with today. God has been excluded from schools, and the ACLU is systematically trying to get it out of our courts as well. Liberal judges are making up laws that the general public would never agree to, had they been able to vote on it. And the representatives and senators that would have suggested such things would have been voted out of office. That is why they are using the court system to abolish the remaining principles that have come from the Lord. The most recent trend has been to get things out of State Seals that are “offensive” such as the cross on the seal of Los Angeles. This is pretty comical when you consider that Los Angeles means “The Angels” and speaks of God’s messengers (Angel means messenger). It will be interesting to see how they will change the names of all the town in the USA that were founded by those that knew God.
With the declaration of the Supreme Court that overthrew sodomy in Texas, and made it ok to “do whatever you wanted between two consenting adults in the privacy of your own home”, it is not surprising that the next part of the slope will be to make marriage “not between one man and one woman”. Again, this is outlined in the first chapter of Romans 1:
“For this cause God gave them up unto vile
affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is
against nature: and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the
woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which
is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which
was meet.” Romans 1:26:27
The first chapter of Romans is really
amazing. It basically takes away any
excuse anyone has for not accepting God’s gift of forgiveness through His Son
Jesus Christ. It also gives a stern
warning where sin will take you. In
order to not take these verses out of context, I need to give some background
of the previous verses. Romans talks about
man knowing God through His creation.
God also put in man’s heart the knowledge that He exists. Man has said in his heart, NO God (Psalm
53:1, man is actually called a fool).
So although man knows in the creation and in his own heart that God
exists, he not only refuses to acknowledge that, but also worships His creation
instead. As a result of this, man
becomes more and more sinful. According
to Romans 1, there comes a time in this path that God gives man over to his own
depravity. Perhaps it is because man is
continuously wicked in thought and deeds, but they may have passed a point of
no return. God finally gives them what
it appears they want, a total loss of morality of any kind.
As a result of God’s seeming protection from
extreme evil being lifted, men and women develop what is called “vile
affections” for one another. “Men with
men and women with women.” It is hard
to imagine how someone would want to do this.
The Bible says that it is “taking the natural use of your body and doing
that which is against nature”. Anyone
should be able to see this (about 2/3’s of the public is against homosexual
marriage which is why liberal judges need to shove it down our throats), and
know that it is wrong, without even reading the Bible. Can this kind of a relationship produce
offspring? No, unless you have others
help out by donating sperm, etc. This
is clearly against nature, and will lead to other consequences we can only wait
and see happen.
At this point, nothing evil will be kept from
them, they will continue to try more and more wicked things, and not only that,
they delight in those who are as immoral as they are. This is found towards the end of Romans 1. So in addition to committing sinful acts,
men and women delight in others doing it as well. If marriage is destroyed and becomes not the God ordained
sanctity of one man and one woman, where will it end? What can we expect in the future? Here are some possibilities that could be a result of this
cultural upheaval:
Benefits
for the married couple:
One of the many benefits for married couples is life insurance. The basis for it is to insure that the surviving “spouse” is able to financially make it when the “breadwinner” dies. If you know anything about life insurance, you are basically “betting that you will die”. If you didn’t think that there was a possibility that you would die, then why get life insurance? So you have some belief that you may die, and don’t want to leave your spouse with no support.
Here is the rub: The insurance company has all these life expectancy statistics to determine how much money they need to charge you in insurance premiums for a given value of insurance. For instance, they know that women normally outlive their husbands, so insurance for them is less expensive. Insurance rates are charged based on life expectancy. It is a fact that the life expectancy of homosexuals is less than that of “normal” people. This means that insurance rates are going to be more for homosexual couples. With AID’s and other problems with that kind of lifestyle like suicide and other STD’s, the life expectancy is greatly reduced.
When homosexuals get married, when it becomes legal to do so, they will expect to be treated “the same” as normal married couples. When this doesn’t happen in the case of life insurance, they will probably sue the insurance industry, wanting to be treated “equally” like their man and woman married peers. It will remain to be seen what will happen; whether the insurance industry will be forced to give them good rates or not, but whatever the outcome, it will probably affect the insurance rates of those of us who’s lives will not be cut short by homosexuality. Healthcare is another related issue, since medical costs of AID’s is very expensive, and will probably continue to climb. There will probably come a time when it will collapse, affecting everyone.
Children:
As we have already pointed out, this unnatural life style cannot produce children by normal means. Lesbian couples can have artificial insemination, so they can actually “have” a baby, but what about homosexuals? They could artificially inseminate a surrogate mother, but it just isn’t the same as the conventional family. Although people who are of this persuasion have tried to break the ice with these ideas by writing books, etc., the statistics are clear: Children grow up the best when the household has a mother and a father. We already know that a child from a broken home is more at risk of behavioral problems, than a child from a two-parent household (one male and one female). No matter whether the child is male or female, they need both parents. Having two dads or two moms is not the same, regardless of what people say, and there is the added stigma of the child being teased by their peers in school, etc. With 66% of the population against these types of unions, you are not going to stop this type of abuse overnight, if ever.
Setting
a precedence:
When homosexual marriage becomes legal, we will have set a precedence that will quicken our path to destruction. Marriage was created and instituted by God in Genesis:
And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.” Genesis 2:21-25
As you can see, God created marriage between a man and a woman. That was the natural order of things, and one thing that becomes clear, very fast, is if God wants things to be done one way, you don’t want to try it another way. Only disaster will be the result of not going along with God. Man, of course, doesn’t want anything to do with God, so he will try to do it his own way, which only leads to trouble. It’s just like telling a kid how to do something, and watching them try to do it another way. The same principle applies with us.
Now that we have gone totally against the natural relationship between a man and a woman, what’s next? Marriage was based on the absolute moral authority and truth of the Bible. If you throw the Bible out the window, where is that going to lead you? Most laws in the western civilization came from the Bible. If we get rid of God, who is going to define our morality? The answer is: US. Man, and ultimately each man will decide what is right in his own mind. This is called relativism. Humanistic Relativism is a terrible premise to base morality. If man defines morality, then my definition of morality is no more right or wrong than yours. And yours is no more right or wrong than Hitler, or Saddam Hussein. You can see where this is going…
Without marriage being between one man and one woman, what is to stop other combinations besides homosexual and lesbian? Why not two women and a man? Or three men? Heck, why can’t I marry my dog? And what about adults and children? In some countries, girls become eligible to marry after their first period. That could come as early as 9 years old. Remember, we are on a “two consenting adults in the privacy of their own home” kick. We may see a push to lower the “age of consent,” based on the UN and the cultures that define adulthood very differently than we do. And since the Bible is gone, morality is relative. It then becomes might makes right. The government decides what the laws are, and their populations are subjected to those rules. Who knows what will come next? The only thing that is clear is that man will become more and more evil, and closer to judgment.
Government
not by God:
The Bible is clear in it’s teaching that God sets up governments, kingdoms, etc. In the book of Daniel we learn that the king, when boasting of how much he had built and accomplished in Babylon, had his kingdom taken away for 7 years. God told him that he needed to learn that it is God who allows kingdoms to prosper, and sets up the kings to rule them. He did not want to give God the glory for the kingdom; his pride was his downfall. This has an important safety factor: The government is subject to God, and must answer to Him for its actions. Do the liberals who want to get God out of the USA know what they are actually doing? They are going to ultimately enslave us. With God out of the picture, the government will not be subject to God, and can do whatever it wants. There will be no moral law to go to for relief. The government will be the law. When our Creator does not ordain us with certain inalienable rights such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, we will live in a totalitarian government.
And we will have brought that on ourselves. You might be wondering: If God sets up governments, why did He allow Hitler or Saddam Hussein to come into power and cause such misery in the world. The answer is actually pretty simple, though few would agree with me: They wanted someone like that. The people, in their actions, asked for the leader that they got. And as we see in Romans 1, if people try hard enough to be wicked, God will give them what they want, and pain and misery will be the result.
There are many places in the Bible where God finally judges a country or city for its wickedness. When this evil is described, it always includes homosexuality, and not just “regular” homosexuality. If homosexuals fought for the right “for two consenting adults to do whatever they wanted in the privacy of their own homes”, there probably wouldn’t be much resistance from the population. It is because they want marriage, and moreover, to be accepted as “normal” people that rubs us the wrong way. They have gay pride parades, where their unnatural lifestyle is flaunted before God and us, and this is what made previous cultures ripe for judgment. People who don’t believe that what they do are right, don’t want to see these parades, or see them portrayed on TV, etc. We want them to stay inside in their private homes. But that isn’t enough. Once again, as we slip closer to the abyss, as they achieve one more goal in their agenda, they want more. This will continue until God’s judgment stops them.
There are many who believe that we are already overdue for God’s judgment. A Pastor once said that if God doesn’t judge the US soon, He will have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah, and this is a very true and accurate statement. Our civilization as a whole is almost at a tie with ancient people that have been judged. So why hasn’t the judgment come? First of all, God tells us that our ways are not His ways. So although we may think it’s time, we do not know God’s ways. Perhaps he is giving us more time so that people getting sick of this lifestyle, or what is happening to society will give their lives over to Jesus Christ. Perhaps it is something more:
Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” Genesis 12:1-3
In the above passage, the Lord is telling Abram, who will later be renamed Abraham that He will make him into a great nation. This will be the Nation of Israel. The important part of this passage for us is that nations that bless Israel will themselves be blessed. Those nations that want to curse Israel will be cursed as well. If you look at the world today, which nations have it the worse? It is usually the ones that curse Israel. The only real friend that Israel has in the world is the United States. But how long will this continue? With the rest of the world slowly bowing to terrorism, it may only be a matter of time before we abandon Israel.
The judgment of God may be on hold because we continue to “bless” Israel. This may be the only reason that we have been spared so far. There are many that want us to abandon Israel, even those in the United States. How long would God’s judgment be held off if we were to stop supporting Israel? Would God construe this as cursing Israel? I believe, along with many others, that this would be the final straw that would break our back. And depending on how drastic the judgment was, it would set off a chain reaction across the world. The last world power may be gone. The aftermath could only be catastrophic, with many Muslim nations saying that Allah had finally judged the United States. Perhaps that is another reason for the delay by God… Not wanting the US judgment attributed to a pagan god. Only time will tell, but as you can see, the path we are on is greased and treacherous. It isn’t going to take much to send us into the abyss. At this point, it may not be a matter of if it will happen, but when?
