MISSION STATEMENT
This website is dedicated to those of us who believe that we are basically good people, and in comparison, that there are a whole lot of people out there who are worse than us:
But are we really good? How would you define it? Do we compare ourselves to Hitler, or Saddam to pick a more recent villain? Or just to someone like a bank robber? What does it really mean to be good?
Lets take a simple test to see how good we really are. We will use a measure for good that has been around for a long time; The Ten Commandments. Let’s just look at a few of them:
The 9th commandment says to not bear false witness against anyone, which basically means to not lie. Have you ever told a lie, even the so-called “white” one? We all have lied at least once in our lives (many times for me I’m sorry to say). The 8th one says to not steal, even something small, like office supplies. That’s another one that everyone is probably guilty of. But how about the 6th which says do not kill? Have you ever killed anyone? You will probably say no, but the Bible says if you hate someone in your heart, it is as if you had killed them. Have you ever hated anyone? If so, then you are guilty of murder. Here is another hard one, the 7th that says to not commit adultery. Again, you might way that you are not guilty of this one; you are not even married. But again, the Bible says that if you look at a woman and lust after her in your heart, you are guilty of committing adultery. It doesn’t matter if you are married or not. One last one, the 3rd, do not take the name of the Lord in vain. Have you ever taken the name of God in vain? This concludes the test of how good we are.
Well, how did you do? If you are like most, including me, you didn’t do very well, and we just went through 5 commandments; there are 5 more. If you did pretty good and only broke one or two, while that’s good, there is still a problem: The Bible says to be guilty of one part of the law is to be guilty of all of it. So it really doesn’t matter how much of the Ten Commandments we have broken, we are all guilty.
Now that we know that we have broken God’s laws, there is something else you should know. The Bible says that it is appointed for a man once to die, and after that the judgment. That means that after we die, we will ALL stand before God and give account of every idle word spoken on the Day of Judgment (Matthew 12:36). When you are standing before God and all of your deeds are compared to the Ten Commandments, God’s standard of goodness, will you be found innocent, or guilty? If you believe that you would be found innocent, even though you have broken God’s law because you think that a loving God would forgive you, think of the following scenario:
You are in a courtroom standing before the Judge, and have just been convicted of robbing a bank. The Judge asks you if you have anything to say before he passes sentence, and you reply: “Judge, I know that you are a good man, and because of that, you will forgive me for robbing the bank.” The Judge says “You are right about one thing, I am a good man, and because I am a good man, I must sentence you, and you are sentenced to a number of years in jail.
On Judgment Day you will be standing before a Holy and Righteous God, who must punish sin. It is precisely because God is good that he must punish sin. The very reason that you thought would forgive you of your sins becomes the reason you are condemned. Now the question again is; if you were standing before God on Judgment Day, and how you lived your life was compared to the Ten Commandments, would you be innocent or guilty? We would all be guilty. If you look deep into your conscience, you know that to be true. The Bible says that there is none righteous, not even one (Romans 3:10) and also that all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God (Romans 3:23). Now that we have been found guilty of breaking God’s laws and have been convicted, what is our sentence?
“For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23a)
The penalty for our breaking of God’s commandments is death, but what does death mean? It actually means that you will go to hell. So back to standing before God, guilty of breaking God’s law, convicted and awaiting sentencing. Will you go to Heaven or Hell? If you are truthful with yourself, you know that you would go to hell. If you think that God wouldn’t send you there, you haven’t realized the magnitude of your transgressions against the law and His righteousness. The Bible says that God’s judgment will be so thorough that you will be grinded into powder. The wrath of God inflicted on sinful man will be more devastating than anything that the human mind can comprehend. Even Moses, who was a righteous man, fell down before God. The Bible says that the best deeds a person can do, which we would refer to as “good works” are as filthy rags to the righteousness of God.
So now that we know that we are guilty under the Ten Commandments and deserve to go to hell, what can we do? Is there any hope for us?
We are traveling down a very wide road with many other people that leads to Hell. You would think that someone, knowing the road they are traveling on leads to a fiery end, would want a way to get off of it. There is a way, one way. It is Jesus. He came to earth about 2000 years ago and ALREADY paid the price for your sins. He died for ALL the sins of the world: past, present and future. Remember the verse above that condemns and sentences us to death (hell)? We here is the entire verse:
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is
eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
(Romans 6:23)
God sent His Son to die for our sins. He paid the price, so that we didn’t have to go to hell. You may have thought that the “God of Love” wouldn’t send you to hell. Well He loved us so much that He sent His only Son to die for us. That is the Love of God.
You might be wondering if this is the only way to God. You have probably heard it said by some that there are “many ways to God”. Or why does Christianity think it is the only way to God. I heard someone say the other day that there are many ways to God. In fact, that all ways lead to God, and this is true. All ways will get you standing before God, but when you get there, will you be judged, convicted, and condemned to hell, or will you be pardoned because your sentence has been already paid for? All paths lead to God, but only through Jesus Christ can we be forgiven for our sins and have them paid for. Jesus said:
“Jesus
saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the
Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)
So although all roads lead to God, only the path through the saving grace of Jesus leads to a pardon, avoiding hell. Your ticket to get you off the path to Hell is waiting for you. All you have to do is to receive it. It is a pardon that you need to accept. If you don’t get your pardon and you die, you will be lost forever. Your soul is eternal. It will be around for a long time. Longer than the 70 or so years you have on this earth. You only have time while you are alive on this earth to decide: Do I accept Jesus’ pardon, or reject Him.
If you are not a Christian, then now is the time to accept your pardon. You have the opportunity now. You may not get another chance. If you want to receive Jesus now, pray this prayer to God right now:
“God, I know that I am a sinner and have broken your commandments. I realize that I am lost, on a road to destruction. I believe in Your Son Jesus; that he came to earth to pay the ultimate price of death for my sins. Please forgive me for those sins. I invite Jesus to come into my heart. To be the Lord of my life. To guide me on the road that leads to eternal life with You. I pray these things in the name of Jesus Christ; with whose name, every knee shall bow and every tongue confess, that He is Lord, Amen.”
If you prayed that prayer, the Angels in Heaven are rejoicing at this moment. You have been reborn into a new life, into the Kingdom of God. You may be asking yourself, “Now what do I do?” You need to read the Bible, God’s word. It will teach you about God and what His plan is for this world. You also need to find a Bible believing Church to go to. There you can meet other Christians, and together, you will be able to help each other. You may have tried to read the Bible in the past and found it incomprehensible. You will be able to understand it now. Pray to God to give you wisdom concerning it.
In addition to reading the Bible and going to church, you should pray. Prayer to God is probably the most important thing you can do. We don’t pray enough. We wait until things get so bleak, we can’t possibly get ourselves out of them. Then we pray.
God Bless you on your new life in Him,
P.S. If you prayed that prayer, and have accepted Jesus into your heart, I would like to hear about it. Please email me at hml. If you don’t have your email setup to work with mailto: then you can use our “Contact Us” form. I am not looking to notch my belt or anything like that. I have been trying to put my pitiful work into this site, hoping that God would inspire me to write something that is useful to others. We are on this earth for two things: First to hear the Gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ and accept Him as our Savior, and then to tell others about Him. I am trying to do that with the web. And some words of encouragement would be nice, since I sometimes wonder if I am really making a difference. Since I am doing it for God, it must do some good.
Here are some things that I believe in:
I believe that the Bible is the inerrant and inspired word of God. Though penned by about 40 human authors over about two thousand years, the Holy Spirit told them what to write. This includes the whole Bible and nothing but the Bible. No other book is needed to learn about God other than the Bible; and any other book that contradicts the Bible should be discarded.
I believe that the Bible should be taken literally. Here are some examples of events that really happened just as the Bible said:
I believe that the Bible should be used as a filter, a magnifying glass for all things. If a book, or a religion for that matter, contradicts the Bible, it is false and should be discarded. This is because the Bible has proven itself as coming from the God who created the universe. There is no higher Authority. This site contains information to prove that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. It will also prove that other creations of man like evolution are false and have no scientific proof.
